On October 22nd of this year, 2017, Bahá’ís here in Anchorage, Alaska along with their brother and sister believers around the world, commemorate a holy day that is both unique in the Bahá’í calendar and, they believe, of immense significance in human history. The holy day marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of the two most important Luminaries of the Bahá’í Faith, the Birth of Bahá’u’lláh. The Bicentenary Celebration of the Birth of the Báb will be in 2019.
The celebration this year marks a mile stone and reverent pause for the worldwide Bahá’í community commemorating the Bicentenary (200th year) Anniversary Celebration of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh
This year’s Bicentenary Celebration plans a palette of public gatherings both small and large hosted all over the Great Land by individual Bahá’ís and the community as a whole. The 200th year of the advent of Bahá’u’lláh, who Bahá’ís believe to be the Manifestation of God for this day, lends itself to reflection on the significance of the advancement of a cause worldwide in scope and adherents. From a Single prisoner in a dungeon in mid-18th century Iran to a movement of more than 6.5 million believers worldwide spread throughout every continent and adherents of a diversity whose only rival is humanity itself.
At this time of the Bicentenary Celebration of Bahá’u’lláh’s birth, Bahá’ís are actively engaged in Community building activities that address the needs of our community and empower individuals to be the instruments of change needed to truly improve their neighborhoods and communities. With the guiding principles of the Oneness of God, essential oneness of the human family, the foundational oneness of religion, The Bahá’í Faith stands as a haven in the transitional times in which we live.
In Anchorage, Alaska the Bahai community in their response to the call of Bahá’u’lláh have embarked on a path as individuals and as a community that fulfil the two-fold purpose fundamental to Bahá’í life. Expressing action that on the one hand refines one’s inner character while on the other performing service to humanity are linked together and form the basis of the day to day activities of Bahá’í Community, individual members and their friends and families. Striving for high ideals in their inner lives and joining with others, assisting in the transformation of society, as a whole.
Please come and join us for the celebration of this milestone in history and the sharing of a life story that has moved millions the world over.
