Welcome to the Anchorage Baha'i Community
The Baha'i Faith is an independent world religion that was founded in 1844 and has been in Anchorage since 1940. The Faith's central theme is that humanity is one family and the time has come for its unification into a peaceful society.

Who Baha'is believe Baha’u’llah is

200 years ago the world of 1817 was a planet where travel was mainly by horse power for land and sailing ships by sea. Many countries had not been visited by travelers of distant lands and so most people were unaware of events that transpired far from the familiarity of their culture and near neighbors.

In Tehran, Iran, on 12 November 1817, Mirza Husayn-‘Alí was born into an aristocratic family where he had all the advantages of this noble birth. Persia (Iran) at this time was considered a backward country where most of the ruling class and clergy were corrupt and oppressive. Yet Husayn-‘Alí was not only kind and generous, but from a very young age displayed an extraordinary knowledge and wisdom. Instead of a career at court He chose to care for the poor.

The story of Mirza Husayn-‘Alí continues to His acceptance of the Teachings of the Báb and from there His life changed from a life of ease to one of persecution and exile. Before being sent further from Persia, Mirza Husayn-‘Alí—known as Bahá’u’lláh (The Glory of God) declared He was Himself the One heralded by the Báb—God’s Messenger to the age of humanity’s collective maturity, foretold in all the world's scriptures.

Because He suffered imprisonment, we are free to proclaim the oneness of the world of humanity for which He stood so long and faithfully. He was chained in dungeons, He was without food, His companions were thieves and criminals, He was subjected to every kind of abuse and infliction, but throughout it all He never ceased to proclaim the reality of the Word of God and the oneness of humanity. -Abdu’l-Baha, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, p. 6-7.

200 years later the Bahá’i Faith is represented all over the world. The followers of Bahá’u’lláh are engaged in service to the world of humanity and promotion of the unity of mankind while increasing their love and awareness 0f God. Bahá’ís are “anxiously concerned with the needs of the age ye live in,” and they center their “deliberations on its exigencies and requirements.” Bahá’ís believe that Bahá’u’lláh is the Return of the Messengers of past bringing the remedy the world needs today.
