This property was acquired through purchase and tax foreclosure in 1974. In 1976, the Exchange Club of Anchorage proposed developing this site as a park. They offered to clean the area, and provide grass seed and picnic equipment. Funds for development of the park were provided through a Community Development Block Grant.

The play equipment was installed by club members as a volunteer project, working directly with the Parks & Recreation Department. The park was named Red Bridge Park after the red bridge in the center of the park by school children in a contest in 1978.

In 1980, the park was landscaped with trees & shrubs, and in 1996 the playground was redesigned and replaced.
